TelecomCity is a network consisting of a continuously growing number of different members. It is a unique cooperation between companies, the university and society, that is recognized by a continuous dialogue. TelecomCity is the platform for this dialogue and the cooperation.
Joint efforts benefit all
The TelecomCity members share the mutual vision of making TelecomCity and the region an internationally leading development environment for infocom business, with a focus on telecommunications.
Together we analyse the development and work for:
- Profitability and growth in the companies.
- Successful education and research at the university.
- A rich living environment.
- Attraction of further competence to the network and to the region.
The network encompasses more than 4500 employees and out of those approximately 150 people are directly involved in the TelecomCity network. They take part in various work groups or other forms for meeting.
THE CHALLENGE OF THE MEMBERS
The members of TelecomCity share the vision of making the Karlskrona region an international leading development environment in infocom, with a focus on telecommunications. The actions of the companies, the university and the municipality are crucial for the success of the project. The mutual project budget is a means for visualizing results and to run various joint activities.
The undertakings of the companies
It is through constant growth that the TelecomCity region can sustain its attractivity and competence. The growth takes place both in numbers of people and in competence, both in the existing companies and in new ones. The number of employees has during the past five years increased by approximately 2500 employees.
The undertakings of the University of Karlskrona/Ronneby
The build up of a forceful university is the most important long term action in order to make TelecomCity an internationally leading development environment. Over the past ten years the number of students with a focus on IT has increased from 100 to 2000. The number of IT-students graduating from the university will soon be approximately 700 per year, which makes it one of the largest in Sweden. 60-70% of the students are willing to stay in the region provided that the companies can offer jobs. Some research is conducted, mainly in signal processing and telecommunications.
The undertakings of the municipality
At a continued growth rate in the business sector as that which we can see today, the development of the Karlskrona region can be compared with the growth of other university cities. That means a population growth of about 15-20% up until the year 2020. This places great demands on the city and municipality, its planning and infrastructure. The investments made by the municipality during the 1990´s in facilities for the companies and the university is just a start.
INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
TelecomCity is an international environment and has agreements of co-operation with other important networks in telecommunication; for example Telecom Corridor and Telecom Valley, that are organized and work in a similar way as TelecomCity. They are also build on the co-operation between business, university and society.
The universities are profiled on and prominent in telecommunications and information technology. The municipalities support the fast growth through offering infrastructure for the companies and residential areas for the employees. The exchange between the companies, universities and municipalities of the different regions brings further dynamics and development. The co-operation encompasses for example student exchanges, technology transfer, contacts and establishment services for companies and other organizations in each other´s respective regions.
