TelecomCity - A competence cluster
TelecomCity is a leading knowledge center in telecommunications and IT, thanks to the climate of cooperation that characterizes the netword, which creates unique conditions for business development.

Close to 20% of the work force in the region are employed in TelecomCity and the IT sector. To compare with the national average of approximately 5% (1997). The growth has during the 1990´s exceeded 400% in TelecomCity.

TelecomCity has Sweden´s most profiled university on Information Technology and telecommunications. The Blekinge Institute of Technology is one of the country´s largest producers of personnel for this industry.

The competence increases day by day. TelecomCity is growing - in numbers of employees in the companies, researchers and students at the university and so on. In various ways meetings between people are stimulated, which creates transfer and development of competence. You meet at the TelecomCity Executive Breakfast, the TelecomCity Academi, or other forums.

The TelecomCity companies have grown by 400-600 people a year between 1995-2000. In the IT industry the growth has exceeded 400% during the 1990´s. The Blekinge Institute of Technology has during the same time grown to become the university most profiled on IT and with the second largest admissions of new students focused on information technology. It is also the university placing the greatest efforts on research and development in its size and has already today some 16 professors in the technical faculty.

Scandinavia - The Wireless Valley
Sweden is world leading in information technology. 60% of the population regularly use computers at work, as many use the Internet and more than half have cellular phones.

Wireless Internet - Companies
The development of wireless products and services, like mobile Internet services and Bluetooth applications, means great business opportunities and enormous growth. The number of companies developing applications, technological solutions, services and products will increase heavily.

There is a unique knowledge in Sweden on the field. In TelecomCity already more than 1000 people, in a steadily growing number of companies, are working with the development of wireless Internet.

Wireless Internet - Education
The Blekinge Institute of Technology, Sweden´s most IT and telecommunications focused university, is placing great effort on applied IT and wireless Internet. Close to 2000 students are studying IT, telecommunication and new media. Educational programs are run in for example computer science, software technology, telecommunications, signal processing, media technology and Internet systems.

The cooperation with business and industry is intimate; in the TelecomCity FutureLand students are developing the future services together with the telecommunications companies.

Wireless Internet R&D
Research has a strong position at the Blekinge Institute of Technology. Its research groups have achieved great success in a short time. The university has its own research education. The focus lies on technology and applied IT in close cooperation with industry and society. The university has 16 professors specialised on information technology.
